My Experiences in Computer Science 1: Our Teacher

Mr. Tom Jordan Secundo. Don't ever forget his name. Who is he? He's Diamond's one and only Computer Science's teacher. He has rules which we must follow. Example? Translating and saying his surname in English is a CRIME.
He is one of the coolest teachers we know!
Ooops! Sorry! I got the wrong picture!

This is Sir Tom.
Hi Sir! Thank you for your challenges!

Credits to Tomas Secundo for the pictures.

My Experiences in Computer Science 1: Beadle

The duty of a beadle is to let the teachers know who is absent, late or who cuts class and let them sign twice on a sheet of paper. Having this kind of position, I'd already experienced running after a teacher who already left the room and aren't yet signing. But in the case of our Computer Science's teacher, I'm not yet experiencing that. Hahahaha! Thanks Sir!

The Beadles! Yeah! Yeah!

My Experience in Computer Science 1: Long Test

I enjoyed our second long test because it was practical. MJ, a classmate, and I, made ours in the library. It was another experience I had in ComSci. The reason why I like practical tests and activities in Computer Science is because I didn't have too much notes about the subject. Plus, as I've said, through practical activities, you learn how to do it in the computer. Unfortunately, my test was 7 minutes late from the submission.

Still, I enjoyed it.

My Experiences in Computer Science 1: Academic Building 2

Rushing through the halls is sometimes fun!

The Computer Science room is located at the second floor of the Academic Building 2. I already had experienced running through the corridors because I might be late for ComSci. I'm afraid that Sir Tom might be angry. Being early is my own benefit anyway. I'll not miss lessons if I'll not be late for class.

If we are dismissed early by the teacher in a subject before Computer Science, it's not a crime if we would pass the canteen first and eat on our way, right? However, it is not allowed to bring foods inside the room.

My Experiences in Computer Science 1: Activities

I always get excited when we had activities in ComSci. Through this, I learn how to do things in a computer. Especially when there are challenges which you don't know if will work or not! You get answers to questions like "Can 'con' be used as a title of documents or files?" or "How do I put passwords to my documents in Microsoft?" These things make the subject more exciting and more interesting!

My Experiences in Computer Science 1: Quizzes

We really are in the modern times! We take quizzes in Moodle which are posted by our teacher, Sir Tom. I always got nervous clicking the word 'Submission' because I'll know my score right away. I feel like closing my eyes tightly while waiting for the result. I really am enjoying ComSci1. However, I almost cry when I got a failing score one time in a quiz.

My Experiences in Computer Science 1: Moodle

Computer Science in Pisay, I can say, is the coolest subject of all with its modern technology! Scholars have their own accounts in a site called Moodle! We can take our quizzes and long tests, view our grades and communicate with classmates and teacher all in this site. How cool is that?

My Experiences in Computer Science 1: Classroom

One of the best things about Computer Science is it's air conditioned-classrooms. The cold breeze that is coming out of the aircons makes us want to get back to sleep! No wonder if someone will bring a comforter and a pillow (Kidding!)! Good thing we're allowed to wiggle and shake our bodies to avoid getting sleepy! Hahaha!

There was a time (a week after the Typhoon Glenda hit Bicol, I guess?) that there was no electricity. So we had to open the windows but close it again after a few minutes because of the cold breeze of the air coming from outside. It wasn't as cold as the one coming from the aircons but it feels so good breathing in fresh air.

So, what do you think? Instead of turning the air conditioners on, why not just open the windows? We just not save environment, we also appreciate it.

Oopps! I know A LOT will protest! Don't take it seriously guys!

P.S. I'm not an Earth Savers!

My Experiences in Computer Science 1: Dormitories

To study in Pisay means to live in Dormitories.

When my mom came home one afternoon from Philippine Science High School- Bicol Region Campus, she had both bad and good news.

And because when I was little, I was a fan of fairy tales which has happy endings, I told her to spread the bad news first before the good one.

The bad news was there were no more available rooms for grade 7 students.

However, the good news was I will not stay alone in a room thinking of horror stories because I will be staying with higher graders who are good in class!

The Dormitory Manager told my mom that my roommates are nice and performs well in class. This story made me more excited to meet them!

June 22, 2014 was the day we went to school. We had an orientation at the auditorium first then we proceeded to the dorms. My room number was 103 which means it's on the first floor.

When my mother opened the door, smiles welcomed us.

Here is a picture of me with my 'ates'.

Let me introduce them to you.
From the left most was ate Diane Joy Palacio. She competed in a Robotics Competition and now a 4th year student. She lives in Camarines Norte. Ate Diane came from the class of Electron and a Director's Lister. There was a time that I needed a copy of the school's pledge and hymns and I asked her if she has. She doesn't have any but volunteered to make me one. That's very nice of her to do something for me.
Next to ate Diane was me.
Third from the left was ate Patricia Renee "Tricia" Sarmiento. She come from Lucena. She's from 4-Graviton. Ate Tricia is a silent-type of person but she's kind. There were times that my things accidentally fell from the upper bank of the double deck (because I was assigned to the upper part and she on the lower part) and she will pick it up and put it on my bed. She seldom talks but you can see that she's nice through her simple gestures.
Lastly, ate Kaira Danielle Lubis. She's very kind and friendly to all. When she's not busy studying, she always joins me on breakfast and lunch. She shared some stories of her to me. Ate Kaira was the one who introduced more about Pisay to me. She told me her experiences here in this school. Among them three, she's my closest! She come from Mindoro. She is also a Director's Lister and a 9-Platinum.

I was lucky that I was assigned to Room 103 with them. I thank them for being patient with me. They are always ready to help me- whether it is about Computer Science 1 or other subjects!

There are still more things that they made for me. That's why Ate Diane, Ate Tricia and Ate Kaira, thank you! Thank you for helping me adjust in Pisay. You are the first ones I met! Thank you for everything you've done for me. Thank you for simply being you! I've never get tired saying 'Thank you' to you.

Room 103 Rocks \m/!

Entering The Philippine Science High School

Entering Pisay is a big challenge for me. As a saying goes "With GREAT POWER comes GREAT RESPONSIBILITY," I know that it wouldn't be easy.

It was a rainy morning on the day of October 12. I can feel the cold air touched my skin. Luckily, I had a jacket that gave me warmth.

My mother and I were going to La Consolacion College in Malolos Bulacan which happens to be the testing center for the Philippine Science High School - National Competitive Examination.

I was nervous. I didn't have time to review for the test. All I brought with me were the items needed. I was shocked when my mom woke me up at 6 o'clock in the morning telling me that the test resumed. Because a night before, PSHS announced that the NCE was postponed because of a typhoon.

I didn't have with me anything to review because I wasn't really prepared. I was busy training and preparing for a provincial contest the previous weeks. All I know I had to do was pray and ask for guidance.

When we arrived at the testing center, I saw my fellow examinees. They looked well-prepared and confident for the test- which I wasn't! Some were studying in groups (which I suppose who attended review centers) while others were with their parents.

The test went smoothly. And all I could say was that it was really hard! (Well, who finds it easy anyway?)

A month passed. I was really enjoying my last year in elementary with my friends and classmates but there's one thing that I couldn't get out of my head. It was something I was waiting for- the results for the PSHS-NCE.

November was almost done which means December was getting nearer and nearer. I didn't want November to end because I was nervous for the results. I was sure that I will not pass. Come to think of it- How can an 'oh-so-unprepared girl' like me will pass a test like that? Hello! It's a National COMPETITIVE Test! And yes, I emphasized competitive to show that it is joined by students who had experienced contests like quiz bees which I had not!

Or maybe.... I just lacked self-confidence. And yes, I do.

When December came, every week, I was checking the PSHS site to see if they had already posted the result. Christmas break came and we went to Bicol to celebrate the holiday there. I can remember myself visiting the site secretly on the 24th day of December because if ever I didn't pass, my mother won't know it yet. She had big expectations to me and I didn't want to disappoint her.

The next day, I was out with my Aunt and Uncle during the afternoon. After some hours, my mother was calling my aunt to deliver us one GREAT news- I passed the Philippine Science High School! My aunt told me that my mom almost cried.

For my part, it was really UNEXPECTED and overwhelming. I couldn't explain the happiness I was experiencing that time.

I had doubts about myself but because of this experience I learned to be confident and believe in myself. I learned to have more faith in God.

My journey in Pisay doesn't begin nor end here. For if this journey will be translated into a book, this part is not yet the Chapter 1. An introduction to Kate Therese Noel whose life begun on June 23, 2014.

A story to tell... and a story to begin.
